City of Ekurhuleni – Messages of Hope

RESTORE HEALTH – Cancer Awareness Day in Kwa-Thema, 26 October 2018

On Friday, 26 October over 500 people walked from The Shoprite complex to The Bulithando Park in Kwa-Thema, Springs.

This initiative was part of the City of Ekurhuleni’s Non communicable diseases campaign with specific emphasis on Cancer Awareness.

After the walk the City of Ekurhuleni hosted a day filled with messages of hope as well as offered screening and testing of sugar, blood pressure, nutrition as well as HIV testing to community members.

As part of the “Messages of Hope” agenda, Midrand based Restore Health’s co-founder, Faheema Mahomed was asked to present to the audience the benefits of probiotic-rich foods like sauerkraut, kimchi and kombucha and the need for South African’s to improve their gut health. According to Hippocrates, the father of medicine, “All health begins in the gut” and gut health has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, Alchemize, depression and many other autoimmune diseases.

Every year 14 million people world-wide hear the words, “You have cancer” and “1 in 4 South Africans is affected by cancer through diagnoses of family friend or self” according to CANSA.

Faheema, lost her dad to cancer almost 2 years’ ago and believes that cancer is a lifestyle disease. Faheema and her partner Ismail who was also diagnosed with cancer in 2016 believes that cancer can be beaten. They started the company in 2016 and is helping clients around the country.
